Frequently asked questions

Which Rate D prices are used?

Prices in force on 1 April 2026: 46.154¢ per day for the system access charge, 7.065¢/kWh for energy up to 40 kWh per day, and 11.142¢/kWh for the rest. Source: Hydro-Québec electricity rates, section 2.5.

How does the 40 kWh per day block work?

Hydro-Québec does not bill each day on its own. The lower-priced block is 40 kWh multiplied by the number of days in the period. Over 62 days, the first 2,480 kWh use the first price.

What is the difference between monthly and period mode?

Monthly mode estimates a 30-day month. A real bill uses the number of days in the consumption period, often about 60. Enter that number in period mode.

Are taxes included?

Yes. 5% GST and 9.975% QST are added to the electricity charges, as on a residential bill. The tax math is the same as the GST/QST calculator.

What is not included?

The winter credit, Flex D, rates DP, DM, and DT, demand charges, and other credits. The estimate is for a Rate D home without a billed power demand.
