Frequently asked questions
What does this take-home calculation include?
Annual gross pay, federal income tax after the 16.5% Quebec abatement, Quebec income tax, the employee QPP contribution (including the second additional contribution), the QPIP premium, and Employment Insurance at the Quebec rate. Net pay is also shown per month (÷ 12) and biweekly (÷ 26).
What assumptions are used?
Employment income only, Quebec resident all year, basic personal amounts only (no spouse, dependants, or other credits), and no RPP, union dues, or taxable benefits. Annual QPP, QPIP, and EI ceilings are applied to the annual salary.
Why can Quebec tax differ from my tax return?
The estimate follows source deductions: the worker deduction (6%, maximum $1,450) and the $18,952 basic personal amount. Quebec non-refundable credits for the base QPP contribution and the QPIP premium are claimed on the return, so they are not subtracted here. The result can be a little higher than tax finally owing.
What is the Quebec abatement?
Quebec residents reduce basic federal tax by 16.5%. That is the 2026 rate in the Canada Revenue Agency payroll tables. Federal tax shown is the amount after the abatement.
